How to Make Your Own Fabric Flag Bunting:
Cut Out the Flags: Start by cutting out the flags from the fabric panel.
Each flag is a single piece with two connected triangles, forming a diamond shape. Carefully cut around the outline of each flag.
Optional: Prepare the String: Next, cut out the long strip of fabric from the panel. This will serve as the string to hold your flags.
If you prefer, you can skip this step and use any ribbon or thick string you have on hand. if you use another ribbon go straight to section 3.
if you are using the Fabric Strip:
Join the Strips: If your fabric panel includes separate strips, start by sewing the short ends together to create one long strip.
Fold and Stitch: Fold the long strip in half lengthwise, with the right sides facing out. Sew along the open edge close to the edge, creating a sturdy fabric ribbon to use for stringing the flags.
Assemble the Bunting:
Folding the Flags: Fold each flag in half along the middle, so that the two triangles align, with the right sides facing out. This will create a triangle shape with a small pocket at the top where the string will be inserted.
Attaching the Flags:
Method 1 (Sewing Directly onto the Ribbon): Place the folded flag over the ribbon or fabric string, positioning the ribbon inside the pocket created by the fold. Sew along the edge of the flag, securing it directly to the ribbon with a ¼-inch seam allowance.
Method 2 (Leaving Space for String Insertion): Alternatively, you can sew the flags first by stitching along the edges, leaving a small gap at the top fold. After sewing, thread the ribbon or string through the pocket you created at the top. This method allows you to adjust the spacing between flags later.
Hang and Enjoy: Once you’ve attached all your flags to the ribbon, your bunting is ready to hang! Whether you’re decorating for a party, brightening up a room, or adding a personal touch to an event, your handmade fabric flag bunting will bring a cheerful and festive vibe to any space.
